One local teacher was named the 2015 Iowa VFW Teacher of the Year.

Lisa Zylstra at Jefferson Intermediate School in Pella earned the state award and is being considered for the National VFW Teacher of the year. Patrick Stark with the VFW and American Legion says she was nominated by the post for her involvement in the flag essay program and for her commitment to support patriotism locally. Zylstra currently teaches 5th grade for the district.
