CIWA-Marion County BOS

During a special session Tuesday, the Marion County Board of Supervisors and the Central Iowa Water Association discussed entering into a partnership on the Attica-Pershing sewer project.

The two groups spoke for about an hour at CIWA Headquarters in Newton.

Attica-Pershing sewer system leader Ann Rice believes a partnership between the two would be beneficial so that CIWA would be accepted better by local citizens and the project can move forward quicker.

CIWA was part of the original project, but withdrew in December, due to countless delays and the threat of lawsuits.

The partnership would have CIWA run and maintain the sewer system with the county as the owner.

Marion County Supervisors Jim Kingery and Craig Agan said they had reservations about the county owning the sewer system, but are looking to get the project moving again. CIWA CEO Jim LaPlant said he would ask his board of directors if they would reconsider taking on ownership, as was originally planned.
