Marion County was one of 18 across the state listed in a disaster emergency proclamation by Governor Terry Branstad Tuesday.

Marion County Emergency Management Coordinator Jeff Anderson says such a proclamation is determined by the amount of damages filed in a particular area and opens up assistance programs to home and business owners.

The Iowa Individual Assistance Program was activated by the proclamation. It provides grants of up to $5,000 for households with incomes up to 200 percent of the federal poverty level for home or car repairs, replacement of clothing or food, and for the expense of temporary housing.
