The Knoxville Softball Squad split another double header in the South Central Conference last night with Albia. The Panthers fell in game one 5-4 in eight innings as they had a 4-1 lead in the seventh when the Lady Dees got a three run homer to tie it…then plated the winning run in the eighth.
Delaynee South took the loss in the first game allowing nine hits and striking out four. Knoxville would come back to take the nightcap 9-8. It started like The Lady Dees were planning on ending things early jumping out to a 5-0 advantage in the first inning, however Knoxville would equalize that with five runs of its own in the bottom of the first. Albia jumped back ahead 8-5 in the third, but Knoxville responded with four more in the fifth. Coach Steph Christner told KNIA/KRLS as crazy as the first inning was, it was good to see the girls respond in a positive way. Jada Agan earned the win in game two going the distance giving up eight runs on nine hits, walking two, and striking out one. Ricki Hall and Avery Neer both had two hits to help Knoxville. The Panthers are now 18-12 on the season and will finish South Central Conference play at 10-8. Knoxville is back in action Monday against Grinnell to wrap up the regular season.
