The Number 1 ranked Pella High baseball team has been focused on building momentum ahead of Saturday’s de facto Little Hawkeye Conference championship and next week’s postseason action. The Little Dutch boys of summer are doing just that, and earned a 14-2 rout of Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont on Thursday in six frames.

Pitcher Jordan Meyer went the distance, striking out 9 Rockets batters. Marcus Wittmer hit a walk-off three run home run to ice another explosive evening of offense for Dutch batters. Head Coach Jesse Jablonski says the team has been trying to use this stretch to really shore up any weaknesses before tournament play begins.

“There’s the baserunning things we can be a little more aggressive with, especially knowing the situation,” Jablonski says. “When you’ve got a lead, you can afford to take a few more chances on the bases, and we want to see our baserunners do those little things.
“Because in a postseason game or a close game, that can be difference between a win or a loss.”

Pella’s three seniors–Wittmer, Tanner Wood, and Jason Morgan, were all honored prior to the game for senior night. The 25-4 Dutch head to Nevada tonight for non-conference play before Saturday’s doubleheader in Osky, with one W earning the Little Dutch their first ever Little Hawkeye Conference crown.
