The Pella Police Department is reminding those who plan to get through Pella today that many areas in town will be busy with ongoing 4th of July Activities.

Lt. Paul Haase says the downtown area will be congested in the late morning hours, and reminds everyone that Franklin Street will be closed for the parade. He says that fireworks viewers are to not park on grassy areas and should avoid getting to close to the fireworks launch site at Madison Elementary.

Pella is celebrating Independence Day with a variety of activities. Fishing at Caldwell Park, with poles and bait provided, will take place from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Fourth of July Committee Chair Paul Kingma says a variety of activities will then start near the downtown area. The parade down Franklin Street starts at 1:30 p.m. at East 2nd Street. Kids can show up to participate in the parade in costume and win prizes. The Aquatic Center will be open from 4 to 7 p.m. Fireworks will take place near Madison Elementary after dusk.
