The veto by Governor Terry Branstad that denied some $55 million dollars in one-time funds to schools means some teaching positions won’t be filled in the Knoxville Community School District.

Knoxville School Superintendent Cassi Murra says four positions were vacated this past year due to either retirements or positions elsewhere.

Those positions would have been filled using the one-time money that was agreed upon by both the Iowa House and Senate, as part of the state budget. However, Branstad used a line-item veto Thursday on that section of the budget. Murra says cuts in other areas are likely without these funds.
