Pella PD Cars August 2015

Area police departments are reminding drivers to take extra care near school campuses when classes start on Monday.

Pella Police Chief Robert Bokinsky says changing routines can create a potentially dangerous situation.

“Once the school year starts, the schedule, the timing, and the way people meet and where they meet changes,” Bokinsky says. “You’ll obviously see a great deal of activity around schools, around bus stops–a lot of children, a lot of parents, a lot of vehicles, and a lot of bicycles at certain times of day.”

He says all parents should review their respective schools pick up and drop off policy, stay vigilant while driving through parking lots, and avoid dropping off kids while in the street. We have more with Bokinsky about back to school safety on tomorrow’s In-Depth with Dr. Bob Leonard.
