For the first time in program history, the Central College football team welcomed a visitor from outside of the country onto their team’s practice field last week. His name is Sergio Scoppetta, and he’s the offensive coordinator for the Italian Lazio Marines American football club team. Scoppetta was studying the Dutch football practices and was involved in their meetings. The Dutch had traveled to Italy in 2007 and 2011 to compete in various games, and Patrick Steenberge, the owner/operator of Global Football who helped put together Central’s trips, was looking for a team for Scoppetta to observe. It just so happened the Dutch faced the Lazio Marines in their trip four years ago, which made for an easy choice for Coach Jeff McMartin. The Italian coach arrived last Sunday on the 23rd, and takes off on Monday to share his experiences with his team and coaching staff. Central is gearing up for their regular season debut this Saturday at home against Benedictine.
