Governor Terry Branstad is coming to Pella Thursday to recognize Central College’s volunteering efforts.

In June, Central College was named among the best employee-based volunteering employers in the state of Iowa when they won the Give Back Iowa Challenge. Central President Mark Putnam says the school received the recognition from the Employer Volunteer Initiative Advisory Council in the large company category.

“One of the things that happened is the state-wide challenge for volunteer service hours for about a six week period,” Putnam says. “And within in our institution size and employee base, our employees committed over 1500 hours to volunteer service, and came in number one in our category.”

A presentation will be held during the school’s fall convocation on Thursday.
