A racing legend currently in Knoxville for the Nationals made a contribution to the New Sharon family who lost three boys in a car crash last week.

Tony Stewart met Singletary family friend Ralphi Munson and her son Jackson while they were holding a memorabilia and t-shirt sale as a fundraiser late Tuesday. Munson says she was having a conversation about what had happened to the boys with someone else, when they were approached by another person who said a man wanted to buy everything they had.

“I wasn’t even paying attention, and off to the side somebody said ‘this guy wants to buy all of them,’ and I looked up and it was Tony Stewart,” Munson says. “And he reached in his pocket and took out all of the money he had.”

Stewart ended up donating $1400, and told Munson to give the shirts away to those in need this weekend during Nationals. She says the support for the family and the New Sharon community has been overwhelming.

“It’s such a roller coaster, because we went to the lowest of lowest to the highest of highest of highs,” Munson says. “Thank God there are great things to take out of this, because it went from extreme bad to extreme good.”

“I just wish we never had to do any of it.”

Jamie, Carson, and Christian Singletary, all of New Sharon, died in a car crash one week ago in rural Mahaska County.

Munson says the family is encouraging those looking to support them to consider organ donations, as all three boys were on the list.
