The Pella School Board updated the district’s negative lunch balance policy at their meeting this week.
Superintendent Greg Ebeling says the board was aiming to find ways to make up for more than $6000 in losses due to empty lunch accounts. The district will contact parents by email and phone when a student’s balance reaches negative $16 and negative $32, and students will no longer be served food when it reaches negative $45. He adds that they will make accommodations for families with special needs and assist others in applying for free or reduced lunch.
