The Pleasantville Trojans baseball team came up a game short of winning their first ever championship, after being no-hit by number one ranked Newman Catholic 10 to 0 in five innings of the Class 1A State Baseball Championship Game Saturday.
The Trojans were unable to solve Knights pitcher Joey Verstegen, who struck out seven batters while only walking two in throwing the fifth no-hitter in state championship history.
Pleasantville’s Zeb Adreon appeared in all three games and was second with 19 strikeouts over 12 1/3 innings of tournament play. Cassin Garr also walked seven times in the tournament.
It’s the 5th overall championship for Newman Catholic and their third in seven years.
The Trojans finish the season with a record of 35 and 4.
