The Pleasantville Trojan Baseball team is just one win away from being crowned a state champion, but the last giant hurdle in their path is Class 1A powerhouse Newman Catholic. The Knights have bulldozed almost all of their postseason competition so far this year, only having one game go the full seven innings, and punctuated by dismantling number four seeded Martensdale-St Mary’s 11-1 in the semifinal round to bring them to today. The Knights offensive juggernaut is seemingly unstoppable, and they currently have eight players on their team with a batting average over .328.

The number three seeded Trojans of Pleasantville will go in as the underdog, but with the strength of their talented and deep pitching staff, they aren’t quite ready to anoint the Knights as state champs before they have their say. Head Coach Sheldon Card said they have a good chance to win but it will have to be an almost perfect effort if they want to come out on top.

The Pleasantville and Newman Catholic game can be heard live on 92.1 KRLS with Garrett Knock and Andrew Swadner on the call, with pregame coverage starting at 10:45am and the first pitch of Championship Saturday at Principal Park scheduled for 11am.
