Offensive players come and go. Defensive players are replaced. For Pella High, one big hole that needed to be filled after last year’s seniors graduated was on the special teams side of the ball. Seth Johnson had the “golden leg” for the Little Dutch, making 67 of his 74 point-after attempts, and went 7-for-11 in field goal attempts with a long of 44. Johnson also put 36 of his 93 kickoffs in the end zone. Coach Jay McKinstrey says there has been quite the competition in practice to boot the ball for Pella. Noah Clayberg and Will Warner both play or have played on the Little Dutch soccer team in the spring, and McKinstrey mentioned their names as possible candidates to see time on field goals or kickoffs. Washington is in town tomorrow to begin the 2015 football season.
