Area bicyclists looking to get a few more rides in before summer winds down will have a chance to break out their bikes next month.

The seventh consecutive Dirty Wooden Shoe cyclocross race will be held on Saturday, Sept. 12th and Sunday the 13th at Lake Red Rock’s South Overlook Park. Races begin at 10 a.m. each day. Event organizer Jacob Oyen says cyclocross is a unique discipline of bicycle racing that requires riders to traverse a short course featuring a variety of terrain–including pavement, grass, steep hills and obstacles.

For the second year in a row, Peace Tree Brewery Co. of Knoxville is a presenting sponsor for the event, and Oyen sees this as a draw for racers from across the state.

“We are excited to have Peace Tree as a presenting sponsor again this year. Their support of the race helps us create an event that exposes Marion County and Lake Red Rock to racers from across the state.”
