You would expect close games when all the best senior baseball players in the state get together to play a series, and that is exactly what has been happening this weekend in Clinton at the 39th Annual IHSBCA All-Star Series. On Saturday afternoon the Small Schools West defeated the Small Schools East 7-6 in a nine inning game where both sides used wood bats. All four Marion County representatives started and played in the game.
Kevin Woodhouse from Knoxville went 0-2 at the plate but drove in the game’s first run with an RBI ground out to give the East a 1-0 lead in the 3rd inning. That lead held until Josh Luna from Pleasantville plated two for the West with a double in the 6th, one of his two hits in the game. The teams would trade the lead back and forth over the final three innings.
For the East, Tony Salato from Knoxville went 1-3 at the plate with a walk and was hit by a pitch. East teammate Otis Roby from Twin Cedars also had five plate appearances in the game, reaching safely once on an error.
The final two games of the series will be held on Sunday.
