The final event of the 2015 season at the Knoxville Raceway starts up tonight with the 12th Annual Lucas Oil Late Model Nationals. If last year’s finish is any indication of how this year’s event is going to go, it should be exciting. Last year Brian Birkhofer passed Scott Bloomquist on the last turn of the last lap to pick up his second Late Model Nationals championship and them promptly announced his retirement from racing. Bloomquist, along with other former winners like Darrell Lanigan, Brian Shirley, Billy Moyer, and Steve Francis are entered. Also entered is sprint car driver and winner of nine of the last ten sprint car Nationals, including this year, Donny Schatz. Hot laps are scheduled to get underway at 6:45 with time trials at 7:15. The Late Model Nationals use the same format at the sprint car nationals, with one exception, every entrant is allowed to race both tonight and tomorrow night with their best point total being used to set the field for the championship races on Saturday.
