Businesses were evacuated Monday morning in response to a natural gas leak in Pella.

Construction crews working on the underground electric conversion project in an alley off of East 1st Street struck an unmarked gas line at approximately 11 a.m.

Assistant Fire Chief Joel Braafhart tells KNIA/KRLS News that two nearby businesses were evacuated as a precaution. He says Alliant Energy responded and was able to shut off the line by 12:15, and spent much of the afternoon repairing the line.

No injuries were reported. Pella Fire and Pella Ambulance also responded to the scene.
