The campgrounds at Lake Red Rock will be packed this weekend with visitors, and the Army Corps of Engineers will have free activities for guests.
Park Ranger Tracy Spry says many of their programs this summer have been well-attended, and she expects bigger crowds at their final set of events.
“Every year is a test–you have weather issues, you have other scheduling issues, but I would say overall we did really well,” Spry says.

Creatures of the Night Hike on Friday from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m.
Event Description:
Hike along a woodland trail in search of the night shift. Follow the tracks left behind by critters of the night and listen for owl calls and other lurking creatures.
Monarch Butterfly Tagging Program on Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m.
Event Description:
Join the Monarch Watch volunteer effort. They’ll attempt to tag some monarch butterflies as they pass through the Red Rock area during their fall migration. Data from tagged butterflies may be used to help researchers track their journey to Mexico.
Let’s Go Paddling on Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m.
Event Description:
Enjoy the chance to experience both canoeing and kayaking in the same day. Participants must be at least 10 years old to use kayaks. Life jackets will be provided.
Pond Exploration on Monday from 10 to 11 a.m.
Event Description:
Go “mucking” at one of the lake area’s wetlands. Dip nets and tubs will be available to try and catch some of the critters swimming and crawling in and around the area. Mucking can be messy, so please wear old shoes and clothes.
