Keeping their heads above water amongst much bigger schools than they are over the first four weeks of the season, the Pella Christian volleyball team did not relinquish a set in their five matches at the North Mahaska tournament on Saturday. The Eagles started by sweeping Lynnville-Sully, Tri-County Thornburg, and Sigourney-Keota without much of a challenge, not allowing any of those three to score above 11 points in any game. In the semifinals, the Eagles had to challenge conference foe, Grinnell, but again, breezed by the competition, winning 25 – 13 and 25 – 14. Hanna Vos had 15 assists, Andrea Horstman put down 11 kills and four ace serves, and Natalie Vos had a triplet of kills in the win. Pella Christian defeated the host Warhawks in the championship, 25 – 13 and 25 – 18. Horstman came up with seven more kills, Sophie Howerzyl had 15 digs, and Sydney Faber killed four points for the Eagles. PC swells their record to 7 – 9, and they’ll host Pella High for a big Little Hawkeye Conference test this Tuesday.
