Zach Matter and Jake Wassenaar were each chosen to two separate teams for their work on and off the gridiron. Dutch tight end, Jake Wassenaar, found out yesterday he’ll be a member of the Allstate American Football Coaches Association Good Works Team at the Allstate Sugar Bowl in New Orleans. The Good Works Team is made up of players who donate their free time to perform acts of service. It’s only the fourth time a player has won the elite award, and the first time since 2011 when Cory Nikkel won it. Wassenaar is carrying a 3.92 GPA while working towards an elementary education major, and is involved with The Raining Season, which supports orphaned children in Sierra Leone, and Central’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes. A full list of honored players can be found below.
Dutch free safety, Zach Matter, was picked to the D3football.com team of the week. Matter stepped in front of two passes and came up with interceptions in Central’s 23 – 17 thrilling overtime victory on Saturday, the second of which ended the overtime period for Monmouth and gave the ball back to the Dutch. Matter also picked up eight solo tackles. Dutch football wraps up non-conference play this Saturday in Watertown, Wisconsin against Maranatha Baptist.
