Central College is gearing up for its fall production during homecoming this week.

The School for Husbands will be at the Kruidenier Theatre every evening from Wednesday to Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Director Mary Jo Sodd says the comedy set more than three centuries ago is about two brothers who are named guardians of orphaned girls to raise and marry if they see fit. She says the overarching premise of child brides still resonates today.

“When you look at the UN statistics, we were just blown away as a group,” Sodd says. “Right now, in the world, that we over 700 million child brides.”

“So even this is a comedy from a while back, the messages are still there and the comedy is there, but there is a little kernel we remember about it that it’s a very serious topic at the same time.”

Tickets cost $6 for adults, $3 for seniors or students and admission is free with a Central ID.
