It was a “weird” way to end the regular season for the Lady Dutch.

That’s how Pella volleyball coach Catie Brand described their 3-1 (25-14, 26-28, 25-21, 25-14) victory over conference rival Oskaloosa Tuesday. The Lady Dutch roared to a 15-1 lead in set one, but the flow of the matches, Brand told KNIA/KRLS Sports, ebbed back and forth from there, especially after the Indians took set two.

“We got tense. It was a very loud atmosphere, so everyone was kind of shouting at each other–not in a mean way, but then, that creates tension on the floor,” Brand says. “So set one went well, but already for set two, we felt a little on our heels and we let Osky come out and get their momentum back.”

Pella was led by 14 kills from Emily Holterhaus, and 11 kills each from senior McKenna Bogaard and Katie Vander Molen. Bogaard played in her last regular season game for the Dutch, and says team is hoping for a big run when the playoffs begin next week.

“We have an awesome chance, so we are going to come to practice really focused and really ready to play these next games,” Bogaard says.

The Lady Dutch enter the playoffs at 25-10, and 5-1 in conference play–good for a 2nd place finish in the Little Hawkeye. Pella will host the winner of a conference showdown between Newton and Grinnell in round two of the Class 4A Regional playoffs on Thursday, October 29th.
