He wasn’t a doctor. He wasn’t a lawyer. And while he liked to keep to himself and remain anonymous, he was seen by hundreds of thousands of people each year.

Larry Seaton, a former Des Moines firefighter, made anonymous $1000 donations to the KNIA/KRLS Marion County Food Drive each year at the Knoxville HyVee.

Larry passed away in April of this year but his family wanted to make one final donation and reveal who was behind such generosity over the past several years. His friend Bob Combs made the final donation on behalf of Larry’s family Wednesday.

Combs says Larry made the donations out of the goodness of his heart. He says Larry would just help neighbors, not wanting anything from them in return.

Larry is known for his picture from the Younkers fire that’s on display at the Iowa State Fair.

The 14th Annual KNIA/KRLS Marion County Food Drive continues to collect non-perishable items and monetary donations.

Combs adds that Larry got a kick out of hearing people discuss who they thought the mysterious donor was and challenges all the area lawyers and doctors to make similar donations the way Larry did to keep the tradition going.
