The ripples of last weekend’s Paris terror attacks are felt here in south central Iowa.
Nicolas Wasilewski is an exchange student and teaching assistant at Central College. The Paris native tells KNIA/KRLS News there was a great deal of confusion initially, and then anger upon learning more about the events unfolding overseas.
“It happened in the late afternoon here, because it was in the evening in Paris, so I was still in class when I received the first messages,” he says.
Wasilewski says he’s appreciative of support shown by others on campus this week.
“It was important for me, and that was kind of moving actually,” Wasilewski says. “I received a lot of messages either from the faculty staff, or from my students, or from other students I’m in class with or met here.”
“Even if it’s really frustrated not to be there [in Paris], it still felt good to be united.”
