Making their home debut for the 2015-16 season, the Central women’s basketball team came up just a bit short to an experienced Iowa Wesleyan squad last night, 64 – 56.

The Dutch had an 18 – 17 advantage after the first quarter, but the Tigers surged ahead, on hot shooting from the outside. Central out-rebounded Wesleyan 45 – 41, but also turned the ball over 16 times. Emily Dine led all scorers with 18 points, and grabbed eight rebounds. Reigning Iowa Conference player of the week, Claire Marburger, scored ten and corralled nine boards. Central’s men fought off the Tigers to salvage a split in the doubleheader, 92 – 73. Colby Taylor recorded a monster 30 point-effort in the victory, on 12-of-14 shooting. Ryan Kunkel put up a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds, and the Dutch won the battle on the glass, 45 – 30. Central’s women fall to 1 – 1 and the men surge to 2 – 0; both teams head up north for another doubleheader this Saturday against Bethany Lutheran.
