Two standout Pella athletes are continuing their career at the Division I level.

State Swimming Champion Samantha Hedrick will be a Nebraska Cornhusker and All-State Pitcher Grant Judkins will don the black and gold of the Iowa Hawkeyes after graduation.

Hedrick says she chose to continue to swim in Lincoln, Nebraska because of the strength of the program at the school and its proximity to home.

“I always knew I wanted to swim D-1, and I tried looking at schools farther away, but then realized that I probably needed to stay close to home because I’m close with home,” she says.

“Just going to Nebraska, there’s so much offered for athletics and student athletes — everything they had to offer was better than the other schools I looked at.”

Judkins says there were many aspects behind his decision.

“One thing I really enjoyed was the coaching staff, they were all really nice to us,” he says. “I like being kind of closer to home, as far as my parents can come watch me play.”

“I just like the campus, I like the facilities, I really like everything about Iowa.”

Grant will play basketball this winter and baseball next summer.
