An onslaught of buckets down the stretch and two huge offensive performances equated to a great basketball game between Pella Christian and Grinnell’s boys on Tuesday night. Ultimately, the Tigers wound up with the victory, 85 – 78. Sam Allen scored 15 first-quarter points to help Grinnell build a 44 – 32 halftime lead, but the Eagles held the Tigers to single digits in the third quarter, thanks to 13 tallies from Levi Jungling, who scored nine straight points on three consecutive possessions to give the Eagles the lead. Both schools traded triples, but the gas ran out of PC’s tank and Grinnell did not miss a free throw down the stretch to seal the win. Jungling finished with 42 points, a career-best, and just three points less than the school record. Coach Larry Hessing says it’s a performance he’ll never forget. Sam Allen for Grinnell had 31 for the game to lead the Tigers. PC’s girls stayed neck-and-neck with Grinnell, but dropped, 68 – 45. Kaley Wilson scored a team-high 12 points in the loss. The girls fall to 5 – 6 and the boys are now 6 – 3. The road doesn’t get much smoother on Friday when the Eagles host Dallas Center – Grimes for another girl-boy doubleheader.
