It may not get the state-wide attention as Iowa vs. Iowa State or the national spotlight at Duke vs. North Carolina, but the Melcher-Dallas and Twin Cedars rivalry is very important to both sides and tonight is the first chance for bragging rights in Southern Marion County as the Saints visit Bussey to take on the Sabers in basketball. While the girls game will pit two teams that have yet to win their first game of the season, T-C Coach Mark Bacus says that takes nothing away from wanting to beat your closest rival. The boys contest will pit two teams in quite opposite directions. The Sabers are surging out of the holiday break winning their first two in January while the Saints are 0-10 on the season. Melcher-Dallas Coach Jim Wells tells KNIA/KRLS this is a perfect time to break a long losing streak, but his team cannot let mistakes chain themselves together. Tip off of the girls game is set for six at Twin Cedars. Fans are invited to come a bit early as it is Twin Cedars’ annual Coaches vs. Cancer night with a meal from 5-7 and silent auction throughout the evening.
