The Pella basketball teams continued their relentless play in a pair of blowouts against PCM Saturday.
Pella High’s boys played one of their most efficient games on offense this season in their 91-52 victory, scoring 50 points and turning the ball over only five times in the first half. Head Coach Mark Core says the now 11-1 group spread the ball around effectively all game long, which is a big positive if they keep the sharing up moving forward.
“It bodes well for this team’s future success, but it also is so fun to play and so fun to coach on a team that is very unselfish,” Core says.
Ryan Van Wyk dominated the hardwood, scoring 34 points, grabbing 12 rebounds, and tallying three assists. Point guard Nick Finney dished out nine assists, and Will Warner scored 13 and helped Little Dutch teammates score six buckets. PCM’s Logan Gilman racked up 18 points to lead the Mustangs.
The now 11-2 Lady Dutch routed the Mustangs 67-31. The girls had four players crack double-digits in scoring, and were led by 16 from freshman Emily Holterhaus.
Girls coach Jerod Garland tells KNIA/KRLS Sports his team established their presence early to the tune of 31 points in the opening period.
“I think today, it was really important to get out to a fast start and our girls did that,” Garland says. “Our transition game was really strong–girls are looking up the floor, running the lanes.”
PCM’s boys and girls fall to 8-5 and 8-6 respectively, and travel to play Roland-Story Tuesday, which will be live on KNIA2.
Pella High makes the long road trip to Adel Tuesday night for a non-conference doubleheader against ADM that can be heard live on KRLS2 under Radio Plus.
