The state is bracing for a major winter storm Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service, widespread moderate to heavy snow is expected throughout central Iowa, with winds at times gusting up to 40 MPH. Travel will not be advised during the peak of the storm, with whiteout conditions possible throughout the day.

Anywhere between four to eight inches of snow is possible, with higher totals northwest of Knoxville, and less to the southeast portions of the county. Ice may also accumulate in the county early in the day.
