Having the dubious task of going back to Dubuque two days after beating Loras, and just five days after their offense slowed down against the Spartans, the Central men’s basketball team finished strong and ousted the No. 1-seed from the Iowa Conference tournament on Thursday night, 72 – 61. Central shot just 33% from the field in the first half, but went 12-for-21 in the final 20 minutes, while limiting Dubuque to just 12-of-32 from the field. The Dutch also held Dubuque to only two offense rebounds, and out-grabbed them on the boards, 44 – 33. Pete Walker led all Central scorers with 20 points, and Colby Taylor moved into the top ten in the career scoring list with 16. It’s the first time in school history that the Dutch men have emerged victorious in back-to-back Iowa Conference tournament road games. The win propels Central to the Iowa Conference championship game on Saturday where they will go to Waverly and face Wartburg at 7:00 p.m. The winner receives an automatic bid into the NCAA Division III National Tournament.
