In a much closer game than their first affair, the Central women’s basketball team couldn’t overcome some early offensive struggles in an 83 – 70 loss on Wednesday. The Dutch shot just under 29% from the field for the first 20 minutes, and allowed 24 second quarter points to the Beavers who held a 12-point lead at intermission. BV came out of the gates strong in period number three and put up a 30-burger on Central’s women who scored 25 in the same timeframe. The Dutch went 16-for-28 from the field in the second half, and made eight of their 11 three-pointers in the final 20 minutes. Claire Marburger scored 24, and Jessica Helton added 12 in the loss. Rebounds hurt Central’s men in their 94 – 75 loss to Buena Vista. Central was out-grabbed on the glass 43 – 26, which turned into a 17 – 3 advantage in second-chance points for the Beavers. Trashawn Boyd led Central with 15 points, and Colby Taylor was limited to just 2-for-10 shooting and only scored seven. Central’s men fall to 5 – 6 in the Iowa Conference and 14 – 8 overall; the women are 1 – 10 and 4 – 18, respectively. Senior night is this Saturday for the Dutch, and though there aren’t many seniors, both teams will be playing their final regular season home game inside of P.H. Kuyper for the 2015 – 16 campaign. The games will be live on 92.1 KRLS.
