Keegan Poole, the lone area wrestler in Class 3A to compete at Wells Fargo Arena for the Iowa Wrestling State Championships, and his loyal contingent of Little Dutch fans who followed the grappler in green to Des Moines left disappointed but not discouraged as the heavyweight junior would fall in his opening bout by decision 3-0. Poole drew one of the toughest matchups that was available, senior Daniel Ramirez from SE Polk who sports a 36-2 record on the season, and a favorite to compete for a state title.

Poole still has his eyes on next season, and the valuable experience can only help the young wrestler. Poole also wrestled in the consolation bracket matches, where he would it would take four overtime periods for him to claim a 3-2 tiebreaker victory and extend his season until tomorrow.
