A monster run that spanned over two quarters allowed the Pella High girls’ basketball team to punch their ticket to the Class 4A state girls’ basketball tournament last night, in a 50 – 31 win over Boone; a game that was live on 92.1 KRLS. The first half was back-and-forth, and the Toreadors held an 18 – 16 advantage with about 3:00 left in the second quarter. The Lady Dutch put together a 20 – 5 run to gallop past their opponents and into the “Elite Eight.” Pella allowed just 13 second-half points to the Torreadors. The play of his freshman, Emily Holterhaus, has impressed everyone this season, and Coach Jerod Garland said after the game how proud he was of the growth and her maturity over these past three months.
Holterhaus cleaned up the boards and scored 14 points and had 11 rebounds to record another double-double, while Chloe Van Vliet led all scorers with 15. Senior Lydia Dingeman says the team came up with a bunch of stops and played well on the other side of the ball, which led them to victory.
Her twin sister, Alexa Dingeman, is pumped to be going to state for yet another sport.
The win pushes Pella’s record to 21 – 2, and will play Lewis Central on Wednesday, March 2 at 10:00 a.m. in the first round of the Class 4A state girls’ basketball tournament. Play-by-play coverage can be heard on 92.1 KRLS, KNIAKRLS.com, and via our free KRLS mobile app.
