Released on Monday, the Pella High girls’ basketball team won’t even have to leave the comforts of their own gymnasium to reach Des Moines and the state tournament. Thanks to a strong showing after a pair of close losses to Dallas Center – Grimes and Ballard, the Lady Dutch will host the regional semifinal versus either Bondurant-Farrar or Newton on Saturday, February 20. The bottom half of the Class 4A – Region 7 bracket features Boone, Perry, and Carroll. A win by Pella High in the semifinal would guarantee them a home game in the regional final on February 23. Given the atmosphere, Coach Jerod Garland tells KNIA/KRLS Sports that it’s a great advantage to have a loud and supportive crowd behind them throughout the postseason. Pella’s doubleheader with Knoxville yesterday was postponed to Monday, and they are prepping for a game against Norwalk this Friday.
