Free throws and cold Little Dutch shooting kept Knoxville’s boys’ basketball team in it early, but height and depth was the name of the game in the second half en route to Pella’s 89 – 66 win over Knoxville yesterday.

Pella’s defense and transition offense helped them get out to a 16-point lead in the second, but the Panthers’ outside shooting allowed them to cut the lead down to eight by intermission. Pella High’s post players, namely Ryan Van Wyk, and a more patient tempo went off for 28 points in the third quarter. Coach Mark Core says his guys took advantage of the mismatches last night.Van Wyk finished with 23 points, after scoring just two in the first period. The Dutch improve to 17 – 1, the Panthers are now 11 – 7; Knoxville hosts D-C-G tonight live on AM 1320 and FM 95.3 KNIA, and Pella is at Newton, which will be on KNIAKRLS.com.
