A big come-from-behind “W” from the Central men’s basketball team on Wednesday assured them a spot in the six-team conference tournament after they beat Loras, 87 – 81. The Duhawks led 45 – 30 early in the second half before the Dutch stormed back with a late surge and scored a monster 57 points the rest of the way to stun Loras. Austin Glawe broke a tie with about a minute to go with the final of his six triples of the game, and Trashawn Boyd expanded the lead to two possessions with a three-ball; his only points of the game, which came after a pair of Duhawk free throws. Glawe scored a game-high 28 points, and Colby Taylor finished with 19 after scoring just three in the first half. Despite 27 points again from Claire Marburger, Central’s women fell short in a 68 – 51 loss. The Dutch trailed by just two at intermission, but Loras gained some distance with a 13 – 0 run over the span of just four minutes in the third period. Central’s men are now 16 – 8 overall and 7 – 6 in league play, and the women drop to 4 – 20 and 1 – 12, respectively. The regular season finale is ahead for Central this Saturday with another trip to Dubuque, this time to face the Spartans.
