The Iowa Legislature has one week of work before many bills are off the table for 2016.

State Representative Guy Vander Linden says the most controversial matter that would need to be sent to the Senate is expanding the use of medicinal marijuana in the state. Vander Linden serves on a subcommittee reviewing the bill, and tells KNIA/KRLS News the primary focus to allow for manufacturing of cannabis oil that was legalized in the state in 2014.

He says current law only allows possession, meaning those bringing it over state lines could face federal prosecution. The bill aims to lift restrictions on the making of the oil. He says the controversy stems from additional provisions to expand to creams and other medicines that come from marijuana.

The first funnel deadline is February 19th at the Iowa Legislature.
