Possible Peanut Pub

The Pella City Council has adopted an ordinance allowing taverns in the downtown business district.

They approved the 2nd reading and waived the 3rd at their meeting Tuesday. In the ordinance, cocktail lounge uses are permitted under city code in downtown Pella if the business receives one of two special use permits from the city’s Board of Adjustment — one of which will be grandfathered over to the Lamp Post Lounge.

The measure was developed after the owners of the Cellar Peanut Pub in Oskaloosa expressed interest in purchasing a vacant lot on Franklin Street downtown. Owners Marty and Betsy Duffy will apply for a special use permit at the next Board of Adjustment meeting on Tuesday, February 23rd at 6:00 p.m. The new Cellar Peanut Pub in Pella would be allowed to open as soon as they receive a permit from the board.
