Oskaloosa Street

The Pella City Council approved a contract with Hawkeye Paving in Bettendorf for the Oskaloosa Street improvements at their meeting Tuesday.

City Administrator Mike Nardini says the nearly $3 million project came in more than $500,000 over the engineer’s estimate because of higher than expected concrete costs, underground work, and tighter federal restrictions for bids.

Nardini says the extra money will be accounted for because of good timing, since the council is working on next year’s budget.

The Oskaloosa Street reconstruction will take place after Tulip Time this year in five phases from East 16th to Prairie Street.

Public hearings are planned later this spring to discuss the different portions of the project.
