The Pella Police Department placed an Ottumwa man in custody after a store employee attempted to apprehend him for an alleged theft Wednesday afternoon.

Pella Police Chief Robert Bokinsky tells KNIA/KRLS News, the Pella PD received numerous 911 calls about a possible burglary at Sports Page Sporting Goods. Police say a store employee chased after Jeremy Raymond, who allegedly stole more than $300 in goods and attempted to flee.

The employee told police Raymond gave up after a foot chase, and officers arrived to place Raymond in custody near a farm behind the Pella Walmart. Raymond was charged with 4th degree theft, but Bokinsky says he did not resist officers, so no additional charges are pending at this time.
