The Central baseball team could only muster two runs in their doubleheader loss to Augsburg on Friday in the Dutch’s home opener. The powerhouse Auggies cranked out 20 hits and took advantage of surprisingly less-than-stellar Central defense to score a total of 16 runs in an 8 – 0 shutout and 8 – 2 win. The Dutch had only six hits on the day, and their two runs came in the same inning, which gave them their only lead. Three consecutive bunts each worked as singles to load the bases with nobody out, but Central could only score on an RBI hit-by-pitch and a safety squeeze bunt that scored the runner from third. Matt Schissel and Blake Judkins each took the losses on the mount for the Dutch, who drop to 2 – 7 on the season. They are off until next Friday to begin league play at home against Luther in a doubleheader.
