The Central men’s basketball team will be playing in their sixth straight road game tonight when the NCAA Division III National Tournament commences in Minnesota. The Dutch have the dubious task of taking on the No. 7-ranked St. Thomas Tommies on their home court. Central has yet to complete the task of beating St. Thomas in their program’s history; they are 0 – 3, including two losses in back-to-back games in the first round of the national tournament in 1994 and 1995. Coach Craig Douma tells KNIA/KRLS Sports that the Tommies like to slow things down and take their time on possessions, and use their quickness and defense to smother their opponents. One thing working to Central’s advantage is their “nothing-to-lose” mentality, and it helps that the team is close, says sophomore Kyle Smith. Tonight’s game can be heard live on 92.1 KRLS, KNIAKRLS.com, and via our free mobile app. Cory Houser will have the call, with pre-game coverage starting at 7:45 p.m. and tip-off scheduled for 8:00. The winner will play the victor in the 6:00 p.m. game; either Wisconsin – Oshkosh or Elmhurst, in round two on Saturday.
