For the first time since 1994, the Central wrestling program had someone make it to the championship match at a weight class in the NCAA Division III national tournament in Cedar Rapids on Saturday. Sophomore CJ Pestano at 125 pounds made it all the way to the end to face No. 1-seeded Lucas Malmberg of Messiah, but fell via major decision, 14 – 6. Juniors Ryan Vandall at 165 and 197-pounder Matt Seabold all won their first matches of the day on Friday, but dropped two straight to get bumped from the tournament. CJ’s older brother, AJ, will graduate this spring, along with Aaron Anderson, Alex Dean, Jay Pike, and Francisco Ruiz, Jr. The Dutch finished with a 9 – 3 dual meet record and sent four wrestlers to the national tournament.
