Coach Dak Rasmussen is happy to have his full complement of athletes back and gearing up for the Pella High girls’ track and field season. Not many were held back due to their basketball obligations, but there were a few that arrived late to the party. Annika Pingel, one of the point guards for the Lady Dutch, led the team in the 100 and 200 meter dash events on the track in 2015; Kelly Murphy competed in the 1500 meters, Paighton Malek also ran the 100 and 100 meter hurdles and competed in the long jump, and a few others participated in the relay events. Even though most of the rest of the team has been able to train and prep over the winter, Rasmussen says that because of the caliber of the coaches and the programs at Pella High, that transition for the hoopsters onto the oval is not that bad. The Lady Dutch open up the outdoor season next Saturday at the Panther Relays on April 2.
