Coach Ryun Ferrell did not have to go far to get a good batch of recruits for his Central men’s tennis team. Already having Tom Palmer on, who is now a sophomore, Ferrell recruited Little Dutch standouts Sam Dykstra and Colin Jones to play for him for 2015-16. Dykstra made it to the championship match in Flight C singles in the Iowa Conference individual tournament this past fall, and dropped a tough contest to Ethan Dirksen of Coe in three sets. Dykstra teamed up with Garret Taylor and they also finished second in Flight B Doubles to a team from Luther. With more Pella High kids on the roster than any other school, Coach Ferrell says the transition from high school life to college is easier, because of the proximity. However, the freshmen find out fast that their style of play and demeanor must change against college athletes. The Dutch men are 4 – 6 in meets thus far, and they will next travel to Des Moines for a dual against Grand View a week from today.
