The Central baseball team is hoping their strong finish to the season last year translates into a faster start to the 2016 Iowa Conference slate when Luther comes to town for the first two of a four-game series this afternoon. The young Dutch won nine of their last 12 conference games to slide into the third place slot for the league tournament, where they eventually lost to Wartburg. Central took three-of-four versus the Norse in their 2015 series. Luther had to deal with some turnover after last year, losing some of their top bats and a few good arms, but have started this season strong, getting out to an 11 – 1 start. Luther is hitting .367 this year while limiting opponents to a .280 average with a staff ERA of 3.56. There are many teams that could win the league title this year, says Coach Matt Schirm, and he says the Dutch will have to bring it each time out against a deep Iowa Conference. Today’s doubleheader will be live on 92.1 KRLS, KNIAKRLS.com, and on our free KRLS mobile app. Cory Houser heads up the play-by-play, with pre-game coverage set to begin at 12:45 p.m. and first pitch of the 7-inning game at 1:00.
