The Central College softball team swept the University of Dubuque Saturday, 5-2 and 9-2. In the opener, the Dutch jumped on top with five third-inning runs and held on for the win. Emily Walton and Karly Olson delivered back-to-back two-RBI singles in the frame. Olson also starred in the circle, throwing four shutout innings to earn the win. In the nightcap, the Spartans took a two-nothing lead after two, but Central rallied with a three-run third, including a two-run double by Tab Taylor. The Dutch added a run in the fifth, and broke it open with a five-run seventh that featured a bases-loaded triple by Paige Dickel. Olson earned the game two win as well, allowing two runs over six innings of work. Central improves to 20-10 on the season, and is tied with Simpson for second place at 6-2 in the Iowa Conference. They face Coe in a key league doubleheader Tuesday afternoon at the Kuyper Athletic Complex in Pella.
